Dear North Carolina Lacrosse Coaches,
As a fellow enthusiast of the game, and an advocate for the genre growth of lacrosse in our state, I urge you to consider making the effort of keeping stats and results up to date throughout the season. It’s time to embrace transparency for the betterment of our players, our teams, and lacrosse in North Carolina as a whole.
To start, let’s acknowledge that in this digital age, almost all games are broadcast and reviewable on platforms like the NFHS Network. Trying to conceal your team’s performance or strategy is becoming increasingly unrealistic. Instead of viewing this as a threat to your competitive advantage, see it as an opportunity to showcase your team’s strengths and talents to a wider audience.
Next, we can agree that coaches are talking anyhow. Whether it’s exchanging insights, analyzing game footage, or scouting opponents, information sharing is already happening. By withholding your team’s stats and key players, you’re not protecting some secret advantage; you’re merely hindering the collective growth and improvement of our community.
Let’s also consider the players themselves. Many of them already know each other from playing club lacrosse together. They’re aware of each other’s skills, strengths, and weaknesses. By being transparent with stats and schedules, you empower these young athletes to learn from each other, push themselves harder, and foster a spirit of healthy competition.
By embracing transparency, you contribute to the growth, reporting, and marketability of our players and the sport in North Carolina. Increased visibility attracts more attention from fans, sponsors, and college recruiters, ultimately raising the profile of lacrosse in our state and opening up opportunities for our players to excel.
For those coaches who have already embraced transparency and recognize the positive impact it has on our players and the sport, I give my sincerest thanks. To those who have yet to do so, I implore you to seriously reconsider your stance on keeping stats and schedules under wraps. Embracing transparency will not only benefit your team but also contribute to the overall growth of lacrosse in North Carolina. Together, let’s propel our players and our sport to new heights.
Sincerely,
Damian Hall
